The Delhi Assembly's Public Accounts Committee has taken up the investigation into the alleged 'Sheeshmahal' controversy around former CM Arvind Kejriwal's residence and is likely to initiate breach-of-privilege proceedings against some of the Aam Aadmi Party leaders.

The committee has alleged that the AAP leaders have politicised the issue and breached the confidentiality of the matter. The whole matter will be presented to the Delhi Assembly.

The Public Accounts Committee of the Delhi Assembly, probing the allegations of irregularities in the renovation work of the controversial bungalow on Flag Staff Road, spoke with reporters on Monday.

Mahawar stated that the committee started its investigation based on the CAG report. The panel had planned to visit the bungalow as part of the investigation, but some AAP leaders allegedly made it a political issue, violating confidentiality.

Mahawar said that the visit was scheduled to study numerous irregularities discovered in the renovation work, like a camp office was expanded to 2,600 square meters instead of 700 square meters. The panel also intended to probe whose orders the servant and IAS quarters were razed to the ground. However, the visit was cancelled.

"According to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, the construction area was increased from approximately 1,397 square metres to around 1,905 square metres. This also raised the issue of an additional financial impact of approximately Rs 18.88 crore. Similarly, questions have been raised regarding the cost of civil works, electrical works, modular kitchens and other components. The CAG has also referred to expenditure of approximately Rs 45.90 lakh on curtains," Mahawar said.

The Public Accounts Committee has sent its report on this matter to the Speaker's office. The Speaker is currently out of town and will take a decision on this matter upon his return to Delhi. The matter may be referred to the Privileges Committee. There is a possibility that AAP leaders may be summoned to the committee. However, the committee has not named the AAP leaders who will face the action over the alleged breach of privilege.
