Hyderabad Protest: Tension prevailed in Hyderabad's Madannapet area following the incident of eggs being thrown near a Goddess Durga idol during the immersion procession on Sunday in the wee hours. The incident triggered sit-in protests led by Hindu organisations.

According to police, the incident unfolded within the limits of Madannapet Police Station at around 2 am, prompting participants in the procession to stage a protest.

Senior Officials Rush To The Spot

As people in large numbers gathered in the old Hyderabad area, Senior police officials visited the spot and spoke to the procession organisers. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kiran Khare, Additional DCP Majid, ACP Venkat Reddy, Madannapet Station House Officer (SHO) K Chandra Sekhar and Saidabad Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shyam Sunder rushed to the spot to control the situation. However, the police said the egg fell near the procession.

Police Case Registered

A case was registered under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.

"We received information that an egg was thrown when the Durga Mata idol procession was passing through a lane at around 2 am," another police official said.

One suspect was taken into custody, and police were examining CCTV footage. The situation in the area was peaceful, and police urged the public not to spread rumours. Further investigation was underway, they added.

BJP Attacks Telangana Govt

A local BJP leader, Mahesh Ugadhi, slammed the Congress-led Telangana government in an X post, asking whether the Reddy government is sleeping.

"SHAMEFUL! Eggs thrown on Maa Durga procession in Madannapet, Hyderabad. In Telangana, Hindu festivals are under attack, and Revanth Reddy Govt is SLEEPING. Under Congress, miscreants get the courage to attack Durga Pooja. Would they dare if the govt were strict? NO Hindus will not tolerate this," his post read.
