The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is offering highway commuters a Rs 1,000 FASTag recharge for reporting unclean toilets at eligible toll plazas through its ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’.

The initiative, launched under the government's Special Campaign 5.0, aims to improve sanitation and hygiene at facilities along National Highways. Commuters can participate by submitting photographs of dirty toilets through the Rajmargyatra mobile application.

How To Report Dirty Toilets And Get Rs 1,000

Highway users can follow these steps to submit a report:

1. Download or update the app: Install the latest version of the Rajmargyatra app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

2. Identify an eligible toilet: Look for an unclean toilet at a toll plaza on a National Highway that falls under NHAI's jurisdiction.

3. Capture a photograph: Take a clear, original photograph of the dirty toilet through the app. The image must be geo-tagged and time-stamped.

4. Enter the required details: Provide your name, location, vehicle registration number and mobile number.

5. Submit the report: Upload the photograph through the app for verification by the authorities.

6. Receive the reward: If the report is validated and qualifies under the scheme, Rs 1,000 will be credited as a FASTag recharge linked to the submitted vehicle registration number.

Who Can Claim The Rs 1,000 Reward?

The initiative is open to National Highway commuters, but certain conditions apply.

- One reward per vehicle: Each vehicle registration number is eligible for only one reward during the scheme period.

- First valid report wins: If several people report the same toilet on the same day, only the first valid submission will be considered.

- Only NHAI-managed facilities qualify: Toilets constructed, operated or maintained under NHAI's jurisdiction are covered.

- Other facilities excluded: Toilets at petrol pumps, roadside dhabas and other facilities outside NHAI's control are not eligible.

- No cash payments: The reward is non-transferable and can only be received as a FASTag recharge.

NHAI will screen submissions using AI-assisted checks and manual verification wherever necessary. Blurred, edited, duplicate or previously submitted photographs will not qualify. Uploading a photograph does not automatically guarantee a reward.

Why Has NHAI Introduced The Initiative?

By encouraging commuters to report issues for sanitation to authorities, the campaign aims to create a map of toilet amenities that are worse maintained along the National Highways.

The move is among the measures taken by the government to upgrade highway infrastructure and enhance the travelling experience. Other measures include pothole repairs, cleaner toll plaza toilets, improved road safety signage, flyover beautification, and removing encroachments along National Highways.
