Andhra Pradesh News: A heart-wrenching video emerged on social media in which a tribal woman is seen carrying her 12-year-old sick daughter on her shoulders for treatment in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram. Highlighting the government's apathy towards rural areas, Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSR Congress Party shared the video on X, saying a mother had to walk nearly seven kilometres, taking her unwell daughter on her shoulders.
The YSRCP Attacks Naidu Govt
Attacking the Chandrababu Naidu-led state government, the opposition party said the government is squandering crores of rupees in Amaravati's mud for its contractors, but is not able to build a basic road for these villagers.
According to YSRCP, the woman in the video is Sunkaramma from Pallapudungada in S Kota Mandal, Vizianagaram District. Her daughter, Sampoorna, was suffering from a severe illness. When she called an ambulance to take her to the hospital, the driver refused to reach her village due to the lack of proper roads.
After the ambulance could not reach, the determined mother decided to carry her daughter on her shoulders, NDTV reported. According to media reports, after walking nearly 7 kilometres, she reached the main road, where they took an auto-rickshaw to arrive at a private hospital.
The Daily Jagran could not independently verify the authenticity of the video. The viral video drew sharp reactions from the opposition leaders.
"Mother carrying her child on her shoulders for 7 kilometres to save her life to reach the hospital. The dire situation in Chandrababu's rule, where ambulances can't reach remote areas due to a lack of proper roads," the X post of YSRCP's official handler in Telugu was roughly translated.
You must feel Ashamed of your incompetence for not even being able to build a basic road for these villages, it added.
Media reports suggested that the construction of the 6.5-km road connecting Sunkaramma's village was sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) around 8 years ago. An allocation of Rs 4.90 crore was fixed, but the construction work was paused due to technical reasons. It was said that the validity period of the Forest Department's permission had expired, which led to a halt of the construction of the road.
