UP Politics: Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Thursday expelled nephew Akash Anand from the party. The major decision came minutes after Ashok Siddharth, former party leader, announced retirement from the active politics. In a post on X, Mayawati appreciated his decision, but raised several questions on the conduct of Siddharth and Akash Anand, his son-in-law.

'Siddharth's Intentions Are Flawed'

In her post, the BSP supremo pointed out that Anand could have a brighter future if Siddharth had announced his retirement earlier, further questioning his intentions. "This would have ensured Shri Akash Anand's active involvement in the party and the movement to a great extent. But the fact that this did not happen proves that the flaw and ambition in Shri Ashok Siddharth's intentions have not diminished at all; rather, they remain fully intact even now," Mayawati said.

Mayawati further alleged that both Anand and Siddharth prioritized their personal interests, adding that BSP suffered massively due to their conduct. "Both Shri Ashok Siddharth and Shri Akash Anand have less attachment to the success of the party and the movement and more to their personal and familial interests," she pointed out.

Akash Anand's Role In Party

Prior to this announcement, Mayawati removed Anand from all the major posts of the BSP by claiming that he lacked political maturity. However, this was not the first time that Anand was removed from the key posts the BSP supremo had taken similar decision earlier during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. While Mayawati had stated that Anand has potential, she did not trust him completely due to his close ties with Siddharth.

BSP's Internal Crisis Ahead Of Polls

Apart from this, Anand was also accused of not speaking as per the party line, leading to his removal from the key posts. Earlier in a major development, Mayawati hinted that Anand could have a bright future if Siddharth announced his retirement; however, the BSP supremo has chosen to not trust her nephew. With just a few months remaining in the UP assembly polls, the party has been dealing with an internal crisis.
