Bihar witnessed a major political development as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, leader of the Janata Dal (United), announced his decision to enter the Rajya Sabha. In a post on X, Nitish confirmed that he will file his nomination in Patna on Thursday in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

With Nitish Kumar set to move to the Rajya Sabha, the leadership of the Bihar government is expected to shift to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This marks a significant turning point in the state’s politics. Here’s The Number Game In Bihar

Bihar Assembly elections were held in November last year. Nitish Kumar was sworn in as Chief Minister for the 10th time after NDA swept the polls.

Bihar has a total of 243 seats in its Legislative Assembly. Within the ruling alliance, the BJP holds a stronger position. If a BJP leader assumes the post of Chief Minister, the party’s dominance in the government would become even more evident. Currently, the BJP holds 89 seats in the Bihar Assembly, making it the largest party in the alliance, while the JDU stands second with 85 seats.

NDA constituent LJP (Ram Vilas) has 19 seats. Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustan Awam Morcha has five seats. Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Morcha has four seats.

Situation of Grand Alliance In Bihar

The Rashtriya Janata Dal has 25 seats, while the Congress has six, the CPI (ML) has two, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has one, and the Indian Inclusive Party has one. On the other hand, Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM has 5 seats and BSP has 1 seat.

Who Are Frontrunners To Become CM?

In political circles, the names of Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Minister Dr. Dilip Jaiswal are emerging as potential contenders for the Bihar CM post.
