Noida Horror: The death of software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, who's car fell into a water-filled bpit in Noida’s Sector 150, had barely settled when another tragic incident occurred in the city. A 23-year-old student from Amity University, Harshit Bhat, drowned in a flooded plot in Sector 94 on Wednesday evening.
Bhat had gone to the location with three friends for a picnic. According to reports, he entered the waterlogged pit to take a bath, but soon got trapped. While his friends managed to escape safely, Bhat was unable to come out. The group alerted authorities, and he was pulled out of the water. However, he was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Negligence Of Authority
According to jagran.com, the Noida Authority was aware of the flooding in the plot. Two months ago, CEO Krishna Karunesh had issued strict instructions to the civil department to drain the water, however the department failed to take action. Following the Yuvraj Mehta incident, an order was issued to immediately remove Vishwas Tyagi, a senior manager in the Noida Authority's traffic cell. However, the general manager came to his defense. Instead of removing the senior manager, he terminated the services of Naveen Kumar, a junior engineer on contract.
Following the drowning of Yuvraj Mehta on January 16, Krishna Karunesh assumed charge as the CEO of the Noida Authority. Soon after taking office, he convened his first meeting with Additional Chief Executive Officers Vandana Tripathi and Satish Pal, along with Civil Department General Managers SP Singh and AK Arora, and senior managers from Work Circles 1 to 10.
He ordered the civil department to drain out all the potholes and barricade them within 15 days and cover all the big and small drains and sewers in the city. As per the order, notices should have been issued to the builders in the areas under their control and this work should have been completed within a week. However, even after three months of the order, the civil department failed to take necessary steps.
Sector 150 falls under Work Circle 10, while Sector 94 falls under Work Circle 9. Both senior managers have been replaced, yet the work remains unfinished. General Manager Civil AK Arora stated that the matter is pending in court. Authority CEO Krishna Karunesh stated that action will be taken in this matter.
