Noida International Airport: The first phase of the much-awaited Noida International Airport in Jewar was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28. Despite the inauguration, the facility has yet to begin scheduled flight operations.

This delay is primarily due to the pending approval of the airport security program from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). However, the issue may soon be resolved, as the board of Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd, the entity responsible for the airport's construction and management, is scheduled to meet on Monday, April 20.

Why Flight Operations Are Delayed And What's Ahead?

According to a report by Jagran.com, Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd had applied for an aerodrome license on March 8, shortly after the airport received its initial one. However, the final approval has been delayed because the CEO, Christoph Schnellmann, is a foreign citizen.

To resolve these issues, YAPL board members are scheduled to meet on Monday, April 20, following a site inspection of the Noida International Airport. The meeting is likely to focus on the issues delaying the approval of the airport security program from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).

A decision is expected to be made during this session, potentially clearing the way for commercial flight operations to begin.

Expected Timeline

According to the report, the sooner YAPL meets the requirements set by the BCAS for the security program, the sooner flight operations can begin at the facility. Experts note that even after the security program is approved by BCAS, one to one and a half months will be required to finalise logistics and safely launch commercial flights.
