Pune Metro Update: In a major update for the commuters, the Pune Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL) on Friday successfully completed the trial runs between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar. The officials stated that that the project is likely to begin the commercial operation by the end of March, adding that Metro Line 3 will boost the reginal connectivity. They further stated that the stretch will provide relief to thousands of passengers by cutting the travel time and reducing the traffic congestion.
Apart from this, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) also announced that the Shivajinagar-Baner flyover will be fully operational ahead of February 20. The authority asserted that the flyover will reduce congestion in one of the busiest regions of the city, providing convenience to the daily commuters. The 23.3-km elevated corridor is considered "game changer", especially for the IT professionals at Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park.
While providing details, the PMRDA officials stated that an application for the commercial operation will be submitted to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) in the upcoming days. However, they also pointed out that not all the stations are likely to begin operation by the end of March.
'Big Win' For IT Professionals
The IT professionals usually face heavy traffic congestion near the Pune University junction, leading to inconveniences. The officials stated that the double-decker flyover on Ganeshkhind Road will significantly cut the travel time. As per a report by the Indian Express, the ridership is significantly likely to improve due to the operation of much-awaited Metro Line 3.

The corridor aims to shift 2.6 lakh passengers off the roads and onto the tracks by the end of 2027. The new metro line is likely to boost the connectivity significantly by integrating the Aqua and Purple lines at Shivajinagar station.
