State Bureau, Punjab: Amid the ongoing internal conflict in Punjab Congress ahead of the 2027 assembly polls, former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and his supporters are soon likely to approach the party high command in Delhi. Channi has reportedly warned that he will stage a show of strength in the national capital if his demands are not met, particularly to remove Amrinder Raja Warring from the state president post.

Channi Camp Persists 

As per the reports, Channi supporters are soon likely to raise their demands with the high command after demonstrating their power in front of party state in-charge Baghel earlier on Saturday. The Channi camp has persisted in its demands despite Baghel clarifying that Warring will not be removed from his post. However, the senior Congress leader assured that he would share their demands with the top brass.

With large support from prominent leaders and MLAs, the Channi faction is hopeful that the Congress high command will intervene in the matter. The reports also suggest that the leaders from around 90 constituencies have agreed to participate in the show of strength to ensure their ticket for the 2027 elections.

RaGa Likely To Intervene 

Senior leader Rahul Gandhi has also returned from his foreign visit and is likely to summon Channi and other senior leaders after taking the final report from Baghel. Along with Channi, Gandhi is also expected to meet Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, OP Soni, and Pargat Singh in Delhi this week.

Will Raja Warring Be Removed? 

Earlier in a meeting at Rana Gurjit Singh's residence, the Channi supporters reportedly told Baghel that Congress might face another defeat if the elections are fought under the leadership of Raja Warring. However, the party is reluctant to remove Warring from the post given his alleged contribution to strengthening the organization in recent times.

Earlier in the 2022 assembly polls, the grand old party suffered a humiliating loss, mainly due to the internal conflicts.
