Punjab Congress Crisis: Warring Likely To Retain State Chief Post; Channi Camp To Meet High Command

State Bureau, Chandigarh: The Congress high command, despite objections from senior leaders Charanjit Channi and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, has reportedly clarified that state party chief Amarinder Raja Warring will not be replaced from his post. The reports suggest that the senior leaders, during their meeting with the state in charge, Bhupesh Baghel, suggested not making any changes in the organization. Baghel is likely to meet all the factions in the coming days to address the internal disputes in the party.

Senior Leaders Meet Baghel 

The senior leaders suggested that any significant changes will affect the party's performance in the upcoming assembly election, reported Jagran, citing Congress leaders. Earlier on Tuesday, Baghel held separate meetings with working presidents Raj Kumar Verka and Sukhwinder Singh Deni, district heads, and other senior party leaders at the Congress Bhawan. As per the reports, the senior leaders stated that the high command should take any decision only after consulting the cadre and prominent leaders.

Channi Camp Seeks Change 

While several leaders, including Channi, Randhawa, and Pargat Singh, have clarified that they will not speak to Baghel in Warring's presence, Congress sources say that Channi is soon likely to meet Baghel. The discontented leaders are also likely to meet the high command in Delhi and are likely to request the removal of Warring. As per the Channi supporters, the current state chief lacks leadership skills, and the party should not contest under his leadership.

Warring Not Likely To Be Removed

As per the reports, former Deputy Chief Minister OP Soni, who had earlier attended the meeting at Channi's residence, met Baghel at the Leader of the Opposition's residence on Monday. Along with Soni, other leaders, including former state president Shamsher Singh Dullo; former ministers Brahm Mahindra, Balbir Singh Sidhu, and Jagmohan Singh Kang; former MLAs Kuljit Singh Nagra, Hardayal Kamboj, and Sadhu Singh Dharamsot; and MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira also met Baghel and gave their inputs.

The assembly election in Punjab is likely to be held in the early months of 2027, in which Congress will try to make a comeback after facing humiliating defeat in the 2022 polls.
