Raghav Chadha Quit AAP: In a major setback to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Raghav Chadha, along with Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal, on Friday announced their decision to merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Chadha added that two-thirds of the AAP’s Rajya Sabha members will also join them. This development is being seen as a major blow to the Arvind Kejriwal-led party in the Upper House of Parliament.
Raghav Chadha Reveals Why He Quit AAP
Addressing the press conference, Chadha also revealed the reasons for distancing himself from party activities earlier. He stated that he did not want to be part of what he described as their “sins” and added that he was not eligible for their friendship as he was not involved in their “crime.” Chadha claimed he wanted to remain focused on public service rather than internal conflicts.
According to him, there were only two options available, either quit politics or give up the public work done over the last 15-16 years. So, the group chose to continue “positive politics” using their experience rather than stepping away from public life. “I am telling you the real reason as to why I distanced myself from party activities. I did not want to be a part of their sins. I was not eligible for their friendship because I was not a part of their crime,” Chadha said.
He further added, “So, we have decided that we, the 2/3rd members belonging to the AAP in Rajya Sabha, exercise the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP.” Announcing the decision, Chadha said that it was taken under constitutional provisions. “We have decided that we, the 2/3rd members belonging to the AAP in Rajya Sabha, exercise the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP,” he said.
AAP Reacts To Rebellion By Rajya Sabha MPs
Meanwhile, AAP leader, Sanjay Singh, slammed the BJP, saying that its ‘Operation Lotus’ have became successful ahead of the Punjab Assembly Election, after Chadha announced that he is joining the BJP. "The Bharatiya Janata Party, along with Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, has initiated 'Operation Lotus' on a massive scale. This is a game of petty politics and a conspiracy to obstruct the good work being done by Bhagwant Mann’s government in Punjab," AAP leader Sanjay Singh said.
He added, "The BJP has done the work of obstructing the good works done by Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government...7 AAP Rajya Sabha MPs are joining the BJP, the people of Punjab should remember these 7 names. The people of Punjab will never forget them."
