Rajasthan News: The continued deaths of women after childbirth at government hospitals in Kota, Rajasthan, in the last couple of days, raised serious questions about the healthcare system in the state. Another woman died at the New Medical College Hospital (NMCH) on Monday, bringing the number of women who have died from infections and complications following C-section surgery in the past week to four.
The latest case, a 30-year-old woman, Pinky Mahawar, died during treatment on early Monday. She was referred to NMCH from JK Lon Hospital in critical condition. Pinky's husband, Chandra Prakash, accused the hospital administration of serious negligence, saying his wife was referred when the situation had completely deteriorated.
Prakash said, "The doctors referred her around 8:30 pm on Sunday night. The medical staff took her in an ambulance from the back gate of JK Lon Hospital to NMCH. She died two hours later while undergoing treatment in the super speciality block."
He said he admitted his pregnant wife to JK Lon Hospital on May 7. The baby was in a breech position, so an emergency C-section had to be performed that night.
Woman's Health Deteriorated After The operation
According to the family, the operation was successful, and the baby was born safely, but the next day, Pinky's health began to deteriorate rapidly.
Chandra Prakash said, "The doctors told her that her uterus had become infected and would have to be removed. A second operation was performed just 15 hours after the first." The family also accused the hospital staff of insensitivity. According to Prakash, the uterus removed after the operation was placed in a box and left on a table near Pinky's bed. The staff said it would be sent for testing, but the box remained there.

Protest Outside Hospital
Following the death, the family members and Congress workers protested on the hospital premises. During the protest, the family placed the box containing the uterus there and refused to conduct a post-mortem, demanding action.
Hospital Administration's Clarification
NMCH Principal Dr Nilesh Jain said that Pink was a high-risk patient from the beginning. He said that the state government has formed a high-level committee to investigate the conditions at JK Lon Hospital, which is investigating the entire matter.
Four Deaths In A Week
Three women have already died: Payal (26), Jyoti Nayak (19), and Priya Mahawar (22). Priya Mahawar died on Sunday. However, the hospital administration claims that she died of a heart complication, not a post-surgical infection.
Six Women Remain In Critical Condition
Six other women currently admitted to the NMCH Super Speciality Block remain in critical condition. All had recently undergone C-sections. These frequent cases have raised serious questions about infection control, operating theatre hygiene, and postpartum care in government hospitals.
