Rajya Sabha Election 2026 Live Updates: BJP Wins Big In Bihar And Odisha; Haryana Counting Begins After EC Intervention

Rajya Sabha Election 2026 Live Updates: Voting for the Rajya Sabha elections began at 9 am and continued till late Monday evening in multiple states. The BJP-led NDA has secured a dominating win, sweeping all seats in Bihar, while in Odisha, two of its candidates and one backed by it clinched the Rajya Sabha seats. Of the 37 seats, 26 leaders have been elected unopposed in the Rajya Sabha election across 7 states. These include - Sharad Pawar, Ramdas Athawale, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Thambi Durai, Vinod Tawde, and Babul Supriyo.
In Bihar, 4 NDA candidates were expected to secure victory in the upcoming contest. However, three RJD MLAs and one Congress MLA abstained from voting, clearing the way for BJP candidate Shivesh Ram's victory. The winning candidates in Bihar are Nitish Kumar and Ramnath Thakur from the Janata Dal (United), Nitin Nabin, Upendra Kushwaha and Shivam Kumar from the BJP. The battle for the fifth seat was between RJD's Amarendra Dhari Singh and Shivesh Ram.
In Odisha, projections suggested that the BJP and the BJD will each secure 2 seats. However, as the voting started, eight BJD MLAs and three Congress MLAs cross-voted in favour of an independent candidate, Dilip Rai, who won the third seat, dealing a blow to BJD. Rai was a BJP-backed candidate who won the election. BJD's only nominee who won the election is Santrupt Mishra. State BJP president Manmohan Samal and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sujit Kumar also won the seat.
