Rajya Sabha Polls: With voting for 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states scheduled on March 16, the electoral picture has begun to clear. As the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ends today, 26 candidates across seven states have already been elected unopposed, leaving 11 seats in three states to be decided through voting.

Elections To Be Held In THESE States

Elections are being held for Rajya Sabha seats in West Bengal, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Assam, Odisha, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. In Bihar, Haryana, and Odisha, more candidates are running than the allotted seats. Therefore, if no candidate withdraws today, a fierce contest could be expected on March 16.

BJP Appoint Observers

The BJP has appointed observers for the elections in Bihar, Haryana, and Odisha. It is now clear that the Rajya Sabha elections in these three states will be a politically charged affair.

Situation In Odisha

Five candidates are vying for the four Rajya Sabha seats in Odisha. The BJP has fielded Manmohan Samal and Sujit Kumar, and is supporting Dilip Ray. The BJD has supported Santrupt Misra, and the Congress has supported Dr Datteshwar Mishra. Of these, two BJP candidates and one BJD candidate are certain to win, but the fourth seat will be contested between Dilip Ray and Datteshwar Mishra.

Fight On Fifth Seat In Bihar

Six candidates are vying for the five Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar. The BJP has fielded Nitin Nabin and Shivesh Kumar, while the JDU has fielded Nitish Kumar and Ramnath Thakur. The fifth candidate from the NDA is Upendra Kushwaha. Meanwhile, the RJD has made the contest interesting by fielding Amarendra Dhari Singh.

Situation In Haryana

Three candidates are in the fray for Haryana's two Rajya Sabha seats. The BJP has fielded Sanjay Bhatia, while the Congress has fielded Karmaveer Baudh. Satish Nandal has made the contest interesting by filing as an independent candidate. However, Nandal is being supported by the BJP. While the BJP candidate's victory is considered certain, the contest will be between the Congress candidate Baudh and the independent Nandal.
