A shocking case similar to ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ has emerged from a government hospital in Bihar, where a security guard was allegedly seen stitching wounds of injured patients due to a severe staff shortage. What may appear as fiction on screen has, in this case, raised serious concerns about healthcare standards and patient safety.

The incident came to light on Monday when two people injured in a road accident were brought to the hospital. According to Jagran.com, the guard stitched their wounds inside the minor operation theatre. A video from the facility shows the guard performing the procedure in place of trained medical staff, triggering widespread outrage.

As per medical norms, only qualified doctors and nursing staff are permitted inside an operation theatre. The presence of a security guard conducting such a procedure has sparked serious questions over negligence and protocol violations at the hospital.

According to Jagran.com, the injured were brought to the hospital after a head-on collision between a tempo and a pickup van. The crash was severe, with the pickup vehicle overturning on the road and leaving its driver and several others injured. The tempo driver reportedly fled the scene.

Locals rushed the injured to the hospital, where allegations of negligence during treatment soon emerged. With the help of locals, the victims were immediately admitted to the Bagaha Sub-Divisional Hospital.

Primary treatment was administered in the minor OT under the supervision of Dr Rampravesh Bharti. After treatment, one of the injured was reported to be in stable condition, while another, Surendra Pasi, remains critical and may be referred if required.

Meanwhile, it was stated that doctors were present at the hospital at the time, but due to a shortage of staff, the guard ended up assisting with the procedure. The injured men described the incident as gross negligence, saying treatment by an untrained person could have cost them their lives.

After the video sparked outrage, the hospital administration issued a clarification. Deputy Superintendent Dr Ashok Kumar Tiwari said the hospital has been facing a long-standing staff shortage.

He added that posts of operation theatre assistants and dressers have remained vacant, forcing the hospital to function with limited manpower. According to him, most cases are being managed with the help of General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) staff.

On the day of the incident, he said around half a dozen seriously injured patients arrived at the hospital simultaneously. Seeing one patient bleeding heavily, help from the security guard was taken under a doctor’s supervision, he added.
