Violence Erupts At Germany Gurdwara

According to German newspaper Bild report, citing eyewitnesses, the violence escalated quickly, just before a prayer service. Authorities deployed nearly 100 officers, including a Special Task Force (SEK) unit from Dusseldorf to control the situation. A helicopter was also used to monitor the situation.

One eyewitness told the news outlet that the attackers first used pepper spray, and later a pistol was reportedly fired, while knives were also seen during the fight. However, police have not officially confirmed the use of firearms. “This must have been planned. Shortly before the service began, the attackers suddenly had pepper spray and sprayed their opponents. Then one of them fired a pistol. And I also saw knives,” a 56-year-old member of the congregation told Bild.

A user shared the video on X and wrote, “Sikhs fighting inside sacred space, turbans flying, kirpans drawn on each other over Golak money, and a forced takeover by the previous management, who lost the election.”

What Triggered Violence?

According to initial investigation reports, the clash may have been linked to a long-running dispute over the Gurdwara’s management and finances. This includes disagreements over the election of a new committee and control of community funds. Authorities claimed that internal tensions between former and current committee members may have started the violence. However, the exact cause is still under investigation.
