Vance blames Iran war for midterm fiasco
In a lengthy online post, the vice president seemingly sought to distance himself from election results seen as a referendum on Trump that featured big Republican losses across the country.
"The reason we lost is the war," Vance wrote, adding, "If you''d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that''s at least honest."

The results set up a divided government, with Congress poised to reassert itself as a coequal branch ready to challenge President Trump and reverse course after two years of unified GOP control. "But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone. The top four answers (for poll debacle) accounting for nearly all of the responses were:
1) End the war
2) Focus on cost of living/inflation
3) Put America First
4) Change our relationship to Israel," Vance wrote on X.
He also pointed to polling data and voter trends suggesting that a considerable number of Americans who supported Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election turned away from Republican candidates in the midterms, largely due to dissatisfaction with the ongoing conflict with Iran. Vance's remarks highlight the political fallout of the war and its growing impact on the Republican Party's electoral prospects.
