The National Investigation Agency has found out that one of the key accused in the Delhi blast case had allegedly used an artificial intelligence (AI) platform for "terror engineering."
The officials claimed that the accused people had made rocket-Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and tested them in the Qazigund forest in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district. The 7,500-page chargesheet filed by the NIA on May 14 revealed many shocking details of the blast, PTI reported. According to the investigators, the accused almost made a "laboratory-grade" approach in the fabrication and use of the IEDs.
'Democratisation Of Terror Technology'
He used online tutorials and AI-generated information as part of his efforts to develop technical expertise. According to CNN-News18 report, the case highlights a growing trend of “democratisation of terror technology," in which publicly accessible online tools can provide technical guidance to individuals lacking conventional weapons expertise.
One of the shocking revelations in the chargesheet is the alleged use of YouTube and ChatGPT by the accused to research explosive designs, rocket construction techniques and ideal chemical proportions for explosive mixtures.
A second accused is said to be the "in-house engineer" of the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) interim terror module, linked to Al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).
AQIS and all its offshoots have been designated as terrorist organisations by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Jasir Bilal Wani, who stayed at AL-Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana, was there to provide technical support for the plan. Jasir was introduced to Dr. Umer un Nabi, another accused and the driver of the explosive-laden car, by Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather. The explosion had resulted in the death of 11 people and left several others injured, the chargesheet said. As per the findings of the NIA, Adeel played a significant role in supplying IED ingredients, including powdered sugar and potassium nitrate in the form of NPK fertilizer, to Jasir, while Dr Umer is said to have conducted research on improvised rocket IEDs and provided guidance.
Dr Umer planned to weaponise drones by sticking explosives to them and then conduct attacks in Kashmir and other parts of India.
During December 2023 and January 2024, Jasir allegedly placed orders through his Flipkart account for various components used in trigger mechanisms, including a sensor-inductive proximity switch, a heat gun, a piezo plate, a remote control relay-switch RF (radio frequency) transmitter and receiver kit, a flameless rechargeable pocket lighter, a soldering kit, and an LED electronic kit, according to the NIA chargesheet.
Agency Traces Terrorist Equipment Back To China
NIA has traced a critical piece of evidence in its investigation back to China, where US-based camera manufacturer GoPro confirmed the device was originally shipped. Investigators are now focused on tracking how the camera traveled from the authorized Chinese distributor into the hands of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) handlers, suspecting the device may have been purchased by the Pakistani military before being supplied to the terror group. Because India lacks a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with China, security agencies are preparing to navigate diplomatic channels to uncover the exact transit route of the equipment.
Previously, the Srinagar police had busted the blast-linked "doctor" or "white-collar" module involving medical professionals.
A wider "jihadi conspiracy" was also uncovered through a detailed scientific and forensic investigation as the accused, some of whom were radicalised medical professionals, were found to be inspired by AQIS/AGuH ideology to carry out the deadly attack.
