Republic Day Security Alert: Delhi and several other cities have been placed on alert as security agencies have flagged a major terror threat ahead of the Republic Day celebrations (26 January). According to intelligence sources, Khalistani terrorist organisations and terror groups based in Bangladesh may attempt to target Delhi and other major cities across the country.
As per intelligence input, cited by news agency ANI, Punjab-based gangsters are gradually increasing their links with Khalistani and radical handlers operating from abroad, acting as their 'foot soldiers' in India.
The intel information further stated that radical handlers operating from outside India are using criminals in India to expand their network and destabilise internal security. Criminals who are active across Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are gradually increasing their network with terrorists and radical outfits abroad
Delhi Police Bolsters Republic Day Security
In view of a potential security threat on Republic Day, the Delhi police have bolstered security arrangements ahead of the Republic Day celebrations. The North District Police carried out several high-intensity mock drills at some of Delhi's most crowded and sensitive spots during the first half of January 2026.
A total of four simulation exercises were held at key locations, including government buildings, iconic heritage sites, crowded markets, and major transport hubs that see massive daily footfall.

The drills took place at high-profile venues such as the historic Red Fort, ISBT Kashmere Gate, the vibrant Chandni Chowk, Asia's largest spice market, Khari Baoli, the ever-busy Sadar Bazar, and several busy Delhi Metro stations, all identified as vulnerable security hotspots.
