Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that severe heat wave conditions are likely to persist over Northwest and Central India throughout this week. The weather department's advisory predicted a rise in temperatures in these regions by two to four degrees Celsius. It advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences. However, some regions of southern states are likely to witness rainfall in the upcoming days.
The IMD stated that temperatures in Delhi could range between 42 and 44 degrees Celsius over the next week. It asserted that the temperature in the national capital could even reach up to 45 degrees Celsius in the upcoming three to four days. Along with Delhi, the nearby cities, including Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Noida, and Faridabad, are also expected to witness similar weather conditions.
Apart from this, a heat wave is likely to prevail in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Western Rajasthan, and Eastern Rajasthan until May 24. The weather department also stated that severe heat wave conditions could develop in Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh between May 19 and May 24.
In its advisory, the IMD has also stated that parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Central Maharashtra are expected to witness a heat wave at least till May 24. In parts of Bihar and Telangana, a heat wave is expected between May 19 and May 21. Apart from this, similar conditions may persist in coastal Andhra Pradesh from May 20 to May 24.

However, several regions of the southern states are likely to witness light to heavy rainfall in the upcoming days, providing relief from the heat. Along with rain, these regions are also likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds. The weather department has advised the fishermen to follow the guidelines and stay updated.
