A video from a major government hospital in Himachal Pradesh has gone viral on social media, showing a stray dog roaming with a severed human leg in its mouth. The hospital management termed the incident a case of gross negligence and formed a committee to investigate. The inquiry into the shocking footage, which took place at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities (AIMSS) in Chamiyana, Shimla, has now revealed the full details.
Findings Of Inquiry
The investigation by a three-member fact-finding committee found that the incident was linked to negligence in biomedical waste management. The limb belonged to 61-year-old Attar Singh, whose leg was amputated during surgery in the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) department last Thursday. Following protocol, the severed limb was placed in the biomedical waste complex for disposal, which was to be collected by the authorised agency, "Enviro Engineers."
Lapse In Security And Waste Management
According to the inquiry, the staff forgot to lock the door of the store room on February 22. A stray dog entered the room during this time and left with the amputated leg. While the video circulated on social media over the past few days, the report claims that cleaning staff had previously tried to search for the missing limb but were unsuccessful.
Action Taken By Administration
On February 24, the dog was seen with the limb. Security personnel attempted to recover the part from the dog, but the animal became aggressive and ran away. Consequently, the hospital administration has issued show-cause notices to the cleaning staff and the supervisor who were on duty on the night of February 21. Further action will be taken based on their responses to these notices.
