Days after Congress staged a sit-in protest outside the prime minister's residence over the NEET issue, activist Sonam Wangchuk's wife Gitanjali Angmo has slammed the party, saying it failed to reflect genuine support for the ongoing students' movement against paper leaks.

In an interview with India Today, she said that the political leaders should have joined the Jantar Mantar protest, instead of staging a demonstration near 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.

She added that Rahul Gandhi's protest lacked sincerity and that Wangchuk's image was exploited for political purposes. Angmo asserted that people could distinguish between symbolic gestures and a sincere approach.

"The protest outside the Prime Minister's residence lacked sincerity. The public cannot be fooled anymore. This is an awakened India. Those who are insincere will be thrown out by the youth," Angmo was quoted by the news channel as saying.

Congress protest after CJP march to Parliament

On Tuesday evening, senior Congress leaders, led by Rahul Gandhi, staged a sit-in outside the PM residence. Several other party leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and NCP leader Supriya Sule, joined the protest.

The Centre rushed Union Minister Jitendra Singh to talk to Rahul Gandhi, but the meeting didn't result in an end to the protest. Later, Delhi Police forcibly removed the leaders and detained Rahul, Priyanka and Akhilesh, causing a major political upheaval.

The protest irked Angmo as it came just a day after Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) protest march to Parliament, 'Sansad Chalo', received a huge public response. Thousands of protestors, including students, thronged the streets, demanding Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation.

The march led to scuffles between the police and protesters at multiple locations, including near Kerala House, Patel Chowk, and Connaught Place. Around 60 protestors were injured while 118 cops also sustained injuries.
