The death of Sunjay Kapur has started a succession feud for Rs 30,000 crore within the family as his mother Rani Kapur has written to the United Kingdom authorities demanding an in-depth investigation into his death.
News18, based on sources, reported that an official criminal complaint has been filed in the UK, further deepening the mystery over the Sona Comstar owner's death.
In her complaint, Rani Kapur has sought the intervention of the UK authorities, while another person aware of the development said that a similar application is likely to be made before the US authorities, given his American nationality.
Earlier on July 24, she wrote a letter to Sona Comstar and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) seeking deferment of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for July 25. She alleged that she was "forced to sign documents," and attempts were made to usurp his son's legacy. following Sunjay’s "highly suspicious" death last month.
In her letter, she had said, "Please take note that during the aforesaid period of grieving, I was approached multiple times and compelled to sign various documents without explanation or even having time to read and understand the same. Despite being under immense mental and emotional distress, I was coerced into signing such documents behind locked doors, and though I’ve repeatedly requested, the contents of such documents have never been revealed to me."

Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, during a polo match in England. He reportedly suffered a fatal cardiac arrest after accidentally swallowing a bee, which got stuck in his throat and triggered a severe allergic reaction. Despite immediate medical attention, Kapur couldn't be saved.
