Tamil Nadu Weather: The northeast monsoon is expected to withdraw from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal within the next 48 hours, the Chennai Meteorological Department said on Friday. With the monsoon retreating, dry weather conditions are likely to prevail across large parts of the region over the coming days.

According to the weather department, an atmospheric depression is currently present over the Kumarikadal region. However, its impact on rainfall activity is expected to remain limited. From January 17 to January 21, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to experience mostly dry weather, with only light fog possible at a few places during the early morning hours.

Tamil Nadu Temperature

The department said there is no significant change expected in minimum temperatures during this period. Night temperatures are likely to remain close to normal across the state and neighbouring regions.

Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast

Dry conditions are also forecast to continue on January 22. On January 23, light to moderate rain may occur at isolated places along coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Interior parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to remain dry even on that day.

Meteorological officials said the overall weather pattern indicates a gradual transition towards stable conditions following the withdrawal of the northeast monsoon.

Chennai Weather Forecast

For Chennai and its suburban areas, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy over the next two days. On Friday, light fog may be seen at one or two places during the early morning hours.

The maximum temperature in Chennai is likely to be around 30 to 31 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may range between 21 and 22 degrees Celsius.

Similar conditions are expected on Saturday, January 18. The sky will remain partly cloudy, with chances of light fog in the morning. Day and night temperatures are expected to stay in the same range.
