Telangana: For the past 23 years, a couple in Telangana, Lalu and Sukkamma, have been performing a wedding ceremony every year for their son, Ram Koti, who died in 2003. They commemorate the day with prayers, rituals and devotion to honour his memory, and over time, their observance has brought the local village together.

Telangana Couple Holds Wedding Ceremony For Dead Son Every Year Since 2003

According to a report by NDTV, Ram Koti died by suicide in 2003 after his love marriage was opposed by the girl's family. Just days later, the young woman he loved also took her own life, leaving both families devastated.

The tragedy deeply affected Ram Koti's parents. According to Sukkamma, Ram appeared in her dream after his death and asked them to build a temple and perform his marriage. Believing this, the couple created a small shrine inside their house, placing statues of their son and the girl he loved together.

Since then, every year on Ram Navami, the couple has been conducting traditional wedding ceremonies for the two.

Couple Treats Statues As Divine Forms, Performs Wedding Ceremony

In Telangana, Sri Rama Navami is celebrated as the day of the celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Sita, with temples across the region observing the festival with great devotion. Inspired by the tradition, Lalu and Sukkamma treat the statues of their son and the girl he loved as divine forms, performing the ceremony in the same manner as a traditional marriage.

Over the past 23 years, what began as a personal act of remembrance has turned into a local tradition. Villagers, relatives and people from the nearby area now gather each year to witness the ceremony and take part in the prayers, honouring the memory of Ram Koti and the girl she loved.
