In yet another jolt to Trinamool Congress (TMC), party leader Prakash Chik Baraik resigned as a member of the Rajya Sabha. Baraik’s resignation comes within days of exits by Sushmita Dev and Sukhendu Sekhar Ray. The TMC is facing its deepest internal crisis following the humiliating defeat in the West Bengal Assembly election. 

Talking to reporters, Prakash Chik Baraik said, "I don't have any demands. In view of the mandate the BJP received in West Bengal..., I too submitted my resignation."

Sushmita Dev's Exit

Sushmita Dev on Wednesday resigned from the party and Rajya Sabha.  "I do hereby resign from the membership of Rajya Sabha, which may please be accepted with immediate effect," Dev wrote in a letter addressed to Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan.

The 53-year-old leader, who left the Congress party and joined the Trinamool Congress in 2021, had vowed to begin a 'new chapter in public service.

Sukhendu Sekhar Ray's Exit

Sukhendu Sekhar Ray resigned from his Rajya Sabha seat on Monday. Before the resignation, Ray had warned the party stating that the dissent could spread to parliamentary seats as well. 

60 MLAs Rebel Against TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee

At least 60 of the total 80 MLAs have rebelled against the party chief Mamata Banerjee, claiming to be the "real Trinamool". The rebellion continued even in New Delhi as 20 MPs have reportedly decided to support the NDA under the leadership of Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. The list includes names of some of the celebrities who were brought to the politics by Mamata Banerjee and were given the Lok Sabha ticket.

Some of the prominent names include - Saayoni Ghosh, Yusuf Pathan, Shatrughan Sinha, Satabdi Roy, and Dev Adhikari.

Is Congress-TMC Merger On Cards?

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh dismissed news reports linking the recent meeting between Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee to merger talks between the two parties, saying that they were "completely inaccurate". He said that the meeting between Gandhi and Banerjee was "cordial", where personal matters were discussed, given the long relationship between the two leaders.
