TMC Protest In Delhi: The Delhi Police detained Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs Mahua Moitra and Derek O'Brien on Friday during the party's protest outside Union Home Minister Amit Shah's office in Delhi against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on the I-PAC office in West Bengal's Kolkata.
ED raids on I-PAC chief Pratik Jain’s house and office, along with other locations across multiple states, escalated into a legal battle in the Calcutta High Court on Thursday, with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee leading the charge against the central agency. ED said the raids were linked to a coal smuggling case allegedly connected to I-PAC.
The confrontation intensified when CM Mamata Banerjee visited Jain’s Loudan Street residence in Kolkata. The ED accused her of obstructing their operations, while Mamata alleged that the agency was attempting to seize crucial TMC material, including candidates’ lists. She is scheduled to lead a protest rally later today in response to the raids.
What Did The Protesting TMC MPs Say
TMC MP Satabdi Roy alleged political misuse of central agencies, claiming ED and CBI raids are timed around elections to influence results.
TMC MP Satabdi Roy said "They sent the team of ED yesterday and they remember everything during the time of elections...They send the teams of ED, CBI during the elections just to win, but they won't win the elections."
TMC MP Kirti Azad called the raids undemocratic and politically motivated.
"ED conducted the raids in a wrong way, and this is an attempt to win the elections in an undemocratic manner, BJP will not win the elections this manner,” said TMC MP Kirti Azad.
