Just a day after Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee was attacked in West Bengal’s Sonarpur, another party leader was targeted on Sunday. This time, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee was hit on the head near Chanditala Police Station in Hooghly when he came to submit a deputation regarding post-poll violence.

The angry crowd was heard shouting "chor chor" slogans as they waved black flags at the TMC MP. The outrage was similar to what was faced by Abhishek Banerjee. The Sreerampur MP's security tried to protect him as he fell to the ground.

Visuals from Chanditala which lies under the Sreerampur Lok Sabha constituency, showed Kalyan Banerjee walking near a truck when something strikes his head from the back.

Kalyan Banerjee Responds

Kalyan Banerjee accused the BJP workers of assaulting TMC leaders. He said, "The BJP workers yelled at me, abused me, and they threw a duce ball or a stone at my head. I started bleeding. I still came here. I don't have the strength to speak. The people will do justice. This is no public outrage. The BJP workers were beating our people. Now, they have targeted me."
