A day after taking over the case, a special team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday reached the residence of former district judge Giribala Singh to interrogate her in connection with the death of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma. Singh, who was granted anticipatory bail on Monday, faces serious allegations of demanding a Rs 2 lakh dowry during Twisha's vidai ceremony.
The central agency's move follows a grueling 10-hour interrogation of Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, by the state SIT. During his questioning, Samarth vehemently denied all allegations of physical violence and forced abortion, instead claiming that the former Miss Pune was suffering from bipolar disorder.
What Did Samarth Say?
During interrogation, Singh accepted that the two had frequent arguments but denied allegations of physical assaults. The MP advocate also revealed that their relationship started staining after Twisha's brother's marriage.
Singh said that Sharma did not want a child and therefore aborted the baby. He claimed that the abortion was performed at Twisha's insistence and after medical advice. According to him, they both went to the doctor together, and the abortion was performed after receiving medication from the doctor.
The former Miss Pune's husband further claimed that Twisha had been suffering from bipolar disorder and experienced sudden behavioral changes. He later told investigators that he was troubled by the sudden changes in her behavior and speech, and that's why he took her to a doctor.
The accused husband also alleged that the former social media influencer had been consuming sleeping pills to reduce stress, prescribed by doctors.
While Samarth has denied the allegation, he told police that Twisha had left her job on her own will and that since they were spending most of their time together after their marriage, he had mutually decided to step away from work.
Samarth also claimed that everything acted normal on the day of the incident. According to his statement, he and Twisha went to the gym together, ate lunch together, and even went for a walk. He told investigators that there was nothing unusual about his behavior that day.
Conflicted Claims
Samarth, according to the investigators, deleted the chats. A team is attempting to retrieve the conversations. Moreover, the chats retrieved from Sharma's phone narrate a different story. Twisha allegedly messaged her mother that Singh accused her of infidelity.
