Jagran Team, Lucknow: The flood crisis in Uttar Pradesh remains unabated, with fluctuating river levels across the state. In several districts of Purvanchal, the Ganga, Saryu, Ghaghra, and Sharda rivers are flowing above the danger mark, while in Varanasi and Prayagraj, the river waters are gradually receding.
Despite this, life in the flood-affected areas has not returned to normal. Water has entered many villages, blocking communication routes, affecting thousands of families. Nine people died in various districts due to the collapse of walls or mud houses and drowning in rivers and ditches amid the rain and waterlogging. The water level of the Ganga in Ballia was recorded at 59.62 metres, 2.05 metres above the danger mark of 57.615 metres. However, the Ganga continues to recede.
The water level of Saryu is about 55 cm above the danger mark of 64.010 metres. The water level of Saryu is continuously increasing due to rainfall in the hilly areas of Mau and release of water from the barrages of Nepal. There has been an increase of 10 cm in the last 24 hours. The water level of Ganga is decreasing in Ghazipur and on Monday evening the water level was 13.5 cm below the danger mark. In Varanasi, the water level of Ganga fell 70 cm below the warning point.
Floods In Farrukhabad Affect 80,000 People
From 69.62 metres on Monday morning, it reached 69.56 metres at 6 pm. The steps of the ghats are visible, but cremations are affected at Manikarnika and Harishchandra Ghats. Ganga Aarti is still being performed from the rooftops of the ghats. Boat operations remain prohibited. The water level of the Ganga and Yamuna is also decreasing in Prayagraj. In Farrukhabad, the Ganga floods have affected around 80,000 people in 102 villages.
75 community schools have been closed as water has reached 77 villages. Five houses and three huts collapsed due to erosion in Samaichipur Chitar. In Azamgarh, the Belhiya link road was severed due to flood pressure. Nearly 60 villages in Jalaun are at risk of flooding. Meanwhile, the Sharda River is flowing 28 centimetres above the danger mark in Palia, Lakhimpur.
Many connecting roads were submerged after 1.20 lakh cusecs of water was released from Banbasa. About 4.95 lakh cusecs of water has been released from the barrages in Sitapur. The crisis persists in 274 villages of Reusa, Rampur Mathura and Behta region. Ghaghra is 42 cm above the danger mark in Bahraich and 15 villages are affected. Water has entered about 200 houses in 60 villages in Barabanki and 20 villages in Gonda.
Woman Dies After Wall Collapses In Sitapur
In Ayodhya, the Saryu river is flowing 31 centimetres above the danger mark. A young man drowned in a drain in Banda, while an elderly man injured in a wall collapse in Mahoba succumbed to his injuries. Motorcycle mechanic Ravinder Gaur also died when the boundary wall of a Public Works Department (PWD) office collapsed in Ayodhya.
A woman died after a wall collapsed in Sitapur, while a dilapidated thatched house collapsed in Sultanpur at midnight on Sunday.
In Shahjahanpur of Bareilly division, teenagers Vinay and Karan died after drowning in a pit dug two years ago during the repair of the railway track, while in Bareilly, boy Bhaskar died after drowning in a flooded drain and farmer Rajveer died after drowning in Ramganga.
In Amla, three young men riding a bike were swept away in the Aril River. In Pilibhit, near the Nepal border, Srishti, a Nepali girl, slipped and was swept away in the Sharda River while filming a reel. More than a dozen houses have collapsed in Bareilly. The District Magistrate has closed schools up to eighth grade in Bareilly until Wednesday.
