In a major update, Fazilnagar, a town in Uttar Pradesh, has been renamed Pavagadh. The announcement was officially made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during a rally.
While announcing the development, CM Yogi said that this is the land of Lord Ram’s son Kush, Lord Buddha, and Lord Mahavira. He added that Fazilnagar will now be renamed Pavagadh and that the MLA from the area has been raising public demands for the change. He said the government is considering recognising Fazilnagar as Pavagadh and that it will be named after Lord Mahavira.
CM Yogi, who was on a visit to Kushinagar, also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 278 projects worth more than Rs 424 crore.
Kushinagar Has a Rich Heritage: CM Yogi
CM Yogi said that Kushinagar is a region with a rich historical and cultural heritage. Reflecting on the situation nine years ago, he said there was an identity crisis at the time. He added that various types of mafias--land mafia, mining mafia, and the so-called “Jungle Raj” had a strong hold over the region. According to him, the policies of previous governments had led to widespread hardship, with the poor struggling for basic needs and youth facing unemployment. He said the situation has changed now.
Taking a dig at opposition parties, he said there was an identity crisis until 2017, and farmers and youth were under stress. He added that the government has now eliminated all kinds of mafias and "misgovernance".
