A sudden heavy storm with strong winds, thunder and lightning occurred in Prayagraj, Pratapgarh and Kaushambi districts of Uttar Pradesh on the night of May 28 and ruined the normalcy of life, resulting in the death of at least six people.

The storm brought down hundreds of trees and electric poles at a number of places, damaging houses and leaving a few areas plunged into darkness, and the storm blew off the tin sheds while several mud houses collapsed because of the incessant rains and strong winds.

Administrative teams have been dispatched to all the districts affected by the storm and the rains to get details of the damage caused.

Four Die In Kaushambi, three of them from the same family

In Kaushambi, a mud house collapsed in Purva Sharira hamlet of Duni village on Wednesday night during the storm, burying 26-year-old Mangar Saroj, her two children, four-year-old Shweta and three-year-old Anubhav under debris as they were sleeping.

Chandrabhavan, 50, died after being hit by a tin shed that was blown away during the storm in Paharpur village in Sirathu tehsil of Kaushambi on Wednesday night while he was asleep.

An old woman dies in Pratapgarh

Phoolkali, 85, died in Fatuhabad village in the Maheshganj police station area of Pratapgarh when a tin shed pillar fell on her during the storm. She was rushed to the hospital by family members and villagers after being pulled out of the debris, but was declared dead by doctors.

Man killed in a building balcony collapse in Prayagraj

Vijay Kumar Singh, 55, died in the Koraon area of Prayagraj when a neighbouring building's balcony collapsed during the storm at around 3 am.

According to reports, the building balcony was on the second floor of the neighbouring building, and he was asleep under a tin shed outside his house in Subhash Nagar locality under Koraon Nagar Panchayat when the incident happened, and he was buried under the debris. Family members took him to the CHC Koraon, where he was declared dead by doctors and the body was later sent for post-mortem.

Two women were hurt in Meja

In the Meja police station limits of the district, a Mahua tree fell on a house at Gadewara village on Friday morning, causing it to collapse, and two women sleeping inside the house were seriously injured and have been admitted to the hospital.
