The Delhi Police has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the murder of 26-year-old Tarun Khatik on Holi in the Uttam Nagar area, following a dispute over throwing a water balloon.

This SIT will now probe the case in detail and thoroughly examine all the facts surrounding the incident. The Uttam Nagar police station will soon transfer the case to the SIT team.

According to the police, the SIT team will thoroughly investigate every aspect, including analysing CCTV footage from the scene, recording eyewitness statements, and incorporating other technical and physical evidence into the investigation.

On March 4, Holi, a woman had a dispute with a family after a water balloon, thrown by an 11-year-old girl hit her. Reportedly, the woman then called her relatives which escalated the tension.

It is alleged that they entered the house and mistreated with the woman and child. The family locked itself inside the home but Tarun was outside playing Holi.

Upon his return, Tarun was allegedly attacked by the woman's family. He was hit with a stone on his chest. He died the next day while undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area. So far, 16 accused, including two minors, have been arrested. The administration, using bulldozers, demolished the portion of an accused's house that the MCD claimed was illegally constructed on drain.

Additionally, the related houses have been sealed for operating illegal factories.

Security hightened

Police are taking special precautions in view of the Alvida and Eid. Security has already been tightened in the area. Two companies of police and paramilitary forces are already deployed in the area. To maintain peace, the police also held a meeting with the peace committee, in which representatives from all sections of society participated.

During the meeting, everyone was urged to maintain harmony and avoid rumors. According to the police, security in the area will be monitored both from the ground and from the air on Friday. Drone cameras will monitor the entire area, and police will keep a special eye on crowds. Officials say the police are fully capable and prepared to maintain peace and order.
