Jagran Correspondent | Bageshwar: The Garud-Bageshwar National Highway remained blocked on Tuesday following an overnight rain-triggered landslide near Rawaikhal. The closure has halted essential supply shipments from Haldwani to Bageshwar, causing severe hardship for residents.
School-bound children, teachers, and staff are stranded by the road closure, joining many others awaiting its reopening. Although the Border Road Transport and Highways (BRO) has deployed machinery to clear the site, ongoing instability and falling debris continue to hinder progress.
The road reopening is being hampered by the continuous falling of stones and debris. The situation remains critical. The administration and BRO teams are working to reopen the route, but the mountain's continued cracking may make it difficult to restore traffic.
Yellow alert issued for Dehradun
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Dehradun, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Nainital, Almora, Udham Singh Nagar, and Champawat. Rainfall is also expected at isolated locations in the remaining districts. The Meteorological Department has predicted the possibility of lightning and heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunder in the hilly districts and Udham Singh Nagar.
Heavy showers are expected over Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar on Thursday. Monsoon activities such as thunderstorms with lightning and very intense spells are expected in several areas of the state. Uttarakhand has been receiving sporadic rains for the past week. A landslide in Uttarkashi affected traffic on the Maneri-Bhatwadi highway. Meanwhile, a massive landslide occurred on the Shimla-Kinnaur National Highway-5 in Himachal Pradesh at around 5 am on Tuesday
The weather department said that Uttarkhand is expected to experience a maximum temperature around 29 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature around 21 degrees Celsius onTuesday.
