Jammu-Kashmir: Pilgrims travelling to the Vaishno Devi Temple will need to adjust their travel plans, as the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) has announced that the ropeway service between Bhawan and the Bhairav Baba Temple is temporarily closed.

According to a notification issued by the board, the ropeway will remain closed from July 13 to July 22 for annual maintenance work. Normal operations will resume on July 23.

Is Vaishno Devi Helicopter Service Available?

Helicopter services from Katra to Sanjichhat resumed on Monday after the weather cleared, allowing pilgrims to reach the temple. However, the relief was short-lived. Dense clouds enveloped Trikuta Mountain by the afternoon, forcing a fresh suspension of the helicopter service due to poor visibility and safety concerns.

Following the suspension of the helicopter service, the passenger ropeway service between Bhawan and Bhairav Baba has also been closed.

About The Passenger Ropeway Service

- On normal days, the passenger ropeway service runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM between Bhawan and the Bhairav Baba Temple.

- Additionally, pilgrims can travel between Katra and Sanjhichhat by helicopter, completing the journey in approximately 3 to 5 minutes.

- The fare for the ropeway service is approximately Rs 100 per person, and tickets are mandatory for all travellers aged three years and older.

- Devotees can purchase tickets online through the official Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board website or offline at the ticket counters located at the Bhawan.

Vaishno Devi Yatra Sees 50 Lakh Devotees By June

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has achieved yet another historic milestone this year. As of June 22, 2026, the total number of devotees who have had darshan at the holy sacred pilgrimage sites has crossed the 50-lakh mark. Official figures confirm that 50.70 lakh pilgrims have so far visited the shrine and received the blessings of Mata Rani.

This milestone is not just a statistical record but a reflection of the deep-rooted faith, devotion, and trust of devotees from across India and abroad.
