Vaishno Devi Landslide: A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall struck the Vaishno Devi yatra track atop the Trikota hills in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district on Wednesday evening.

Debris suddenly fell onto the new track near Himkoti, forcing officials to temporarily suspend the battery car service. A live video of the incident, captured by a devotee, has since gone viral. However, no casualties were reported, and the pilgrimage to the revered shrine remained unaffected.

Video Shows Moment Landslide Struck Vaishno Devi Yatra Track

According to a report by Jagran.com, Katra and its surrounding areas had been grappling with severe weather conditions and continuous rainfall. The incident unfolded when a devotee, who was recording the pleasant weather on his mobile phone, accidentally captured the exact moment a massive amount of mud, stones, and debris came tumbling down the hillside at high speed.

The video, which has now gone viral, shows the flow of debris shattering the sturdy iron safety railings along the path as if they were made of straw. The debris spilt directly onto the main road used by the pilgrims.

At the time of the incident, several devotees were passing through the area, and the sudden arrival of debris and stones triggered panic. However, a major tragedy was averted as alert pilgrims, sensing the speed of the debris, managed to retreat just in time.

Shrine Board And Administration On Alert

Following the incident, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board rushed men and machines to the scene to clear the debris and restore the affected path. Speaking to news agency PTI, officials stated that while the battery car service was temporarily suspended, the yatra continued via the old route.
