Uttarakhand Weather: Heavy rains continued to lash Uttarakhand on Thursday, disrupting public services, damaging infrastructure, and affecting road connectivity across several districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for multiple districts, warning of more heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Traffic has been disrupted on the Badrinath National Highway in the Chamoli district and the Kedarnath Yatra route in the Rudraprayag district due to heavy rainfall, landslides, and falling debris from hillsides.
Amidst a heavy downpour, authorities have also temporarily suspended the movement of vehicles and pedestrians on the Sonprayag–Munkatiya road in Rudraprayag as a precaution to ensure the safety of pilgrims undertaking the Kedarnath Yatra.
The IMD's Meteorological Centre has placed Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, and Bageshwar districts under an orange alert, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places for today. Meanwhile, Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli districts remain under a yellow alert for heavy rainfall.
In view of the heavy rain alerts, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) has directed all concerned district magistrates to remain vigilant and ensure that necessary precautionary measures are in place.
In Chamoli district, debris from a hillside near Gulabkoti village, between Chamoli and Joshimath, blocked the Badrinath National Highway following heavy rainfall since Thursday morning.
The southwest monsoon entered Uttarakhand on June 30 and became active across the state by Wednesday. Since then, intermittent rainfall has lashed several areas, including the capital Dehradun.
During the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures in both the plains and the hills remained significantly below normal.

For July 3, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Nainital and Bageshwar districts, while all other districts remain under a yellow alert.
For July 4, 5, and 6, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for all districts in Uttarakhand. Heavy rainfall is expected in Chamoli, Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Udham Singh Nagar.
