As the Gujarat ATS arrested five more individuals in connection to the Pakistan-backed terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed, it is revealed that the terrorists had conducted at least eight trials of blasts during the plan. The investigations suggest that the accused were not directed by any external organisation but planned the attacks while consuming radical and hateful videos available online.The Gujarat ATS stated that the arrested accused were the madrasas of Palanpur and Bharuch.

Eight IED Trials, Online Training

The ATS claimed that the accused planned the blasts on their own and that there was no direct link with any terror outfit. The key accused, Ahmad Jamia Abul Hasan, and his group conducted eight trials of IED and timer bomb explosions at various locations between 2023 and February 2024.

The accused, Mohammed Amin Shera and others, received training from the internet and ordered necessary chemicals and materials through online shopping sites. Police seized Rs 130,000 in cash and bomb-making materials from them.

Outlining the gravity of the matter, ATS Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sunil Joshi said that the provocative and hate-filled books were recovered from the accused. Additionally, videos of Pakistani terrorist Maulana Masood Azhar and Jaish-e-Mohammed flags have been recovered from this group. The accused were distributing these books to young people to manipulate them to join the outfit.

ATS DCP Harsh Upadhyay and DCP K. Sikkarwar, the accused, are being continuously interrogated. To strengthen the digital evidence in this case, the ATS has also sought detailed information from social media platforms such as Instagram, Telegram, and Meta (Facebook/WhatsApp) to compile a complete picture of their online activities.

Significantly, the current operation is a part of an FIR registered on July 8, 2024, in which several accused have been named under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Indian Penal Code. Currently, the Gujarat ATS, in collaboration with the Rajasthan Police, is working to dismantle this.
