Jagran Correspondent, East Delhi: Heavy rain lashed the Delhi-NCR region on Tuesday, causing severe waterlogging and widespread traffic disruptions across the national capital and nearby regions. The Trans-Yamuna area of Delhi was particularly hard hit by the downpour, which submerged streets and disrupted vehicular movement. In Gurugram, just 40 minutes of heavy rainfall turned major roads into virtual ponds, while similar conditions were reported across Noida and Ghaziabad.

Traffic Halted In Trans-Yamuna Areas

While the sudden spell of rain brought much-needed relief from the humid weather, the resulting drainage failures and massive traffic jams led to commuter woes. Commuters faced severe difficulties due to waterlogging on the roads in Vikas Marg, Karkardooma, Gandhi Nagar, Preet Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Durgapuri, Shahdara, Dilshad Garden, Bhajanpura, Maujpur, Seelampur, Khajuri Khas, and several surrounding areas.

Poor Drainage System Exposed

According to Jagran.com report, commuters heading to offices in Vikas Marg and Laxmi Nagar were stuck in traffic jams for extended periods. Two-wheeler riders faced the most difficulty as roads were inundated in several areas, including Karkardooma, Preet Vihar, and Gandhi Nagar. Vehicles got stranded in the water at various locations, leading to long traffic snarls on major routes.

Meanwhile, the heavy downpour also exposed critical inadequacies in the drainage systems of northeastern Delhi localities, including Ashok Nagar, Durgapuri, Bhajanpura, and Khajuri Khas. Business activities were disrupted due to waterlogging in the markets. Residents have demanded the concerned departments to identify waterlogged areas, repair the drainage infrastructure, and take effective measures to prevent such situations in the future.

Gurugram Roads Turn Into Ponds

In Gurugram, just 35-40 minutes of rainfall exposed the city's poor drainage system. Roads in several areas, including Madanpuri, New Colony, Sector-47, Sector-5, Sector-9, and Railway Road became submerged, causing immense inconvenience to residents and motorists. In view of the heavy rainfall in Cyber City, the administration is on high-alert, and all SDMs have been deployed to the field.
