Wayanad Landslide LIVE: 123 Bodies Recovered So Far; Rescue Operations Paused Until Daylight Today

The rescue and search operation being carried out by the personnel of tri-services, state and federal agencies was put on hold for the night. The operation will commence tomorrow, said Army colonel overseeing the operation.

In response to the Wayanad landslide, the Indian Coast Guard has dispatched Disaster Relief Teams with boats, pumps, life jackets, and medical support. The teams are providing crucial relief and assistance to affected people, a release stated.

Indian Air Force helicopters are conducting rescue operations in Wayanad's Chooralmala area after a landslide earlier today claimed over 93 lives.

Wayanad Landslide News Live: A total of 93 people have been reported dead as per the latest information. While armed forces and multiple state and central agencies work together on rescue, adverse weather conditions are creating problems in the operation. 

After heavy rains triggered deadly landslide in Wayanad's Chooralmala, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has asked all the officials of essential services to remain on standby amid an orange alert by the IMD for the state.

Wayanad Landslide LIVE: After a massive landslide hit Chooralmala in Kerala's Wayanad on Tuesday, Indian Army, Navy and Airforce has deployed help on the request of the state government. Around 200 Indian Army personnel from the DSC Centre in Kannur and the 122 TA Battalion from Kozhikode were sent to the site. The 122 TA Battalion has now arrived and is assisting with relief operations. Additionally, a team of 30 specialist swimmers from the Indian Navy has been deployed, and two helicopters from the Air Force station in Sulur have also been dispatched.

Following a tragic landslide which claimed over 80 lives in Kerala's Wayanad on Tuesday, Chief Minister of neighboring Karnataka expressed grief, while assuring all necessary assistance to Kerala.

"It was heartbreaking to hear the news that more than 70 people have died in the landslide accident in Kerala and many have gone missing. We are going to stand with the people of neighboring Kerala in such a difficult time. Our government will provide all necessary assistance to Kerala," Chief Minister Siddaramaiah posted on X.

The death toll in Wayanad lanslide has increased to 84, while 116 injuries have been reported so far, Kerala Revenue Minister's office said on Tuesday afternoon. 

Kerala government on Tuesday declared two-days official mourning in the state starting from today to tomorrow after at least 70 people lost their lives in a landslide incident in Wayanad.

Over 70 bodies have been recovered and sent to hospital after the massive landslide in Wayanad. Kerala's Chief Secretary Dr V Venu said that the situation in the area remains grave and steps are being taken for inquest and postmortem.

The toll rose to 57 in the landslides that hit Kerala's hilly Wayanad district on Tuesday, according to state government sources.

In response to the landslide in Wayanad, Kerala Health Minister Veena George visited the Health Department Directorate to evaluate the current measures in place. She provided a comprehensive update on the situation and instructed for monitoring of hospital bed availability in the affected regions. George also suggested establishing temporary hospitals if needed and stressed the need to evaluate the mortuary systems at existing hospitals, including the utilization of mobile mortuaries. Kerala Landslide: IMD issued a Red alert for 4 districts - Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kasaragod. Orange alert in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Palakkad.

Indian Air Force has deployed one each Mi-17 and ALH Dhruv chopper for rescue and relief operations in Wayanad, in coordination with the Kerala government and NDRF officials, IAF officials inform.

The Kerala government on Tuesday sought the assistance of the Defence forces for rescue operations in the wake of the devastating landslides in Wayanad district.

Reacting to the landslides, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, said a comprehensive plan will be made to rehabilitate people who were affected. Speaking in Lok Sabha, Gandhi said he had spoken to Rajnath Singh and Kerala CM over rescue efforts.  

Kerala Minister AK Saseendran visited the Wayanad landslide site to assess the damages and relief efforts. As many as 44 have been reported dead so far. 

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are expected to visit Kerala's Wayanad. "This is the hour of togetherness, we have to work together so that maximum people's lives are safe. We are planning to go (to Wayanad). Yes, both (Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra) are planning to go," Congress general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal tells ANI.

Venugopal said that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has assured full cooperation and that efforts to involve maximum-level rehabilitation measures are underway.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his condolences over the loss of life due to landslides in Kerala's Wayanad and said the Tamil Nadu government is ready to provide any assistance to Kerala in this crisis.
