Tensions continue along the India-Bangladesh border in Assam's Mankachar sector, where nine Bangladeshi nationals remain stranded in a stretch of no-man's land after Bangladesh authorities reportedly refused to accept them.

There have been multiple rounds of flag meetings held between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to solve the issue. The discussions, however, have yielded no concrete solution, according to sources.

According to BSF sources, yet another round of talks is scheduled for today as both sides are making efforts to break the deadlock.

Situation Escalated On Sunday

The incident surfaced when nine individuals were seen stranded in the no-man's land area close to Mankachar on Sunday.

In a video that has been circulating widely on social media, one of the men could be heard saying, "We are Bangladeshi citizens."

Another video purported to show one of the individuals saying, "We had come to work in India. We have our papers. We do not wish to go back to India, even if they kill us and throw us in the river." Several clips have also shown them in tears as they remain stuck between the two nations.

BSF Intensifies Action Against Infiltration

The incident has come at a time when border security forces are on alert to prevent illegal crossings between India and Bangladesh. In the recent past, BSF have ramped up their efforts against illegal infiltration, and several Bangladeshi nationals apprehended at the border have been sent back to the neighbouring country.

Last week, a joint operation of Assam Police and BSF caught 21 suspected infiltrators. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, also lauded the effort put in by the security personnel and applauded their service.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has praised the police and the BSF for their role in preventing infiltration.

"Safeguarding borders, strengthening security. In an excellent joint effort by @assampolice and @BSF_India, 21 infiltrators were swiftly identified and prevented from entering India. Our multi-pronged approach of safeguarding our border continues," he said in an X post on Sunday.

The future of these nine people stuck between the two countries, with yet another round of BSF-BGB meeting scheduled, hangs in the balance.
