BENGALURU: In a horrifying incident of domestic violence, a woman working as a home guard was brutally stabbed to death by her husband in the Mahadevapura area of Bengaluru. The accused was struggling from heavy financial losses from online betting and executed the murder in front of the couple's two minor children and family members. He had also recorded a chilling selfie video detailing his plan prior to the crime.
The victim has been identified as a 32-year-old, Manjula, who was stationed at the Mahadevapura police station.
What happened?
According to police reports, her husband, Pradeep, had lost around Rs 7 to Rs 8 lakhs in betting and, due to family disputes arising from the debt, Manjula was living separately at her parents' house. On Sunday evening, under the pretext of reconciling and apologising, the accused reached his in-laws' house hiding a knife in his jacket. While pretending to beg for forgiveness, he suddenly assaulted Manjula, stabbing her approximately 20 times.
Chilling Pre-Crime Video Found
Based on the preliminary investigation, the police stated that Pradeep had become addicted to online betting and was struggling with financial and family problems. Before the murder, he had recorded a selfie video in which he claimed that the betting addiction had ruined his family and said that both he and his wife would die.
Confessing the truth of his ruin in the video, Pradeep said, "Online gaming completely destroyed my married life, leaving my wife and children destitute," Pradeep stated in the footage, warning others against online gambling. "Money is everything in life, and today, both of us are going to die."
Further revealing his horrific conspiracy in the video, he said, "I cannot live without my wife. I had called my in-laws to talk about resolving the issues between us. I knew she would return home from work in the evening. If I apologise to her and she refuses to come back to me, I will kill her immediately.
My wife is actually a very good person, but she is misled by her parents' side. "At the end of the video, he also apologised to his family and friends.
Details of the Attack
The victim's mother recounted the harrowing sequence of events to the media. She said she and her son had gone to attend a relative's funeral, and when both returned home around 7 PM, Pradeep was already present there. He was begging before Manjula and crying, apologising for his mistakes. Seeing Pradeep repent like this, both the mother and son became relaxed and went to wash up and bath.

Taking advantage of the moment, Pradeep pretended to bow at Manjula’s feet. Instead, he tripped her, forcing her to the ground. Before she could call out for assistance, he drew the hidden knife and killed her.
Family members rushed a heavily bleeding Manjula to a nearby government hospital, where attending physicians pronounced her dead on arrival. Local police have initiated a formal investigation into the homicide.
