Police arrested all three accused and sent them to custody after presenting them in the court.
On June 3, after the body of an unidentified woman was found, a case was registered and an investigation was initiated. During the investigation, the deceased was identified as 30-year-old Indravati, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh. Superintendent of Police Suraj Kumar Verma deployed the Mehgaon TI and the cyber cell team to solve the murder. A reward of Rs 10,000 was announced for the arrest of the accused.
“The investigation confirmed the murders were the result of a love affair and a marriage dispute. Three accused in the case have been arrested, presented in court, and sent to jail, said Sanjay Kochha, SDOP, Mehgaon.
How A Torn Train Ticket Helped Catch The Accused
-Near the scene, police found a torn train ticket from Mathura to Gwalior. Based on this clue, the cyber team examined CCTV footage from railway stations. The footage showed the woman with two other men. Based on technical evidence and interrogation, police then detained Narayan, Sangeeta, and Kundan. During interrogation, all three confessed to the murder plot and the crime.
-The investigation revealed that 24-year-old Narayan alias Narayani Baghel, a resident of Ajnol Mehgaon, worked in Surat, where he met Indravati. They developed a love affair. The woman became pregnant. When she pressured him to marry her, the accused began avoiding her.
-Meanwhile, the accused also developed a love affair with Sangeeta Baghel, a resident of Bhind.
-When Indravati came to know about Sangeeta, she started threatening Narayan. According to the police, on Sangeeta's insistence, Narayan called Indravati to Mehgaon on the pretext of marriage. She reached Gwalior from Mathura by train. After that, the woman came to Mehgaon.
-From here, the accused along with his partner Kundan alias Ayush Batham took her to the fields of Piprauli, where all three of them strangled her. After that, they attacked her face with a shovel and killed her.
