Weather Update Today: The cold wave conditions have swept across the country, as IMD has forecasted cold waves and dense fog for Delhi-NCR, the northern states, while the western Himalayan region receives snowfall.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an active Western Disturbance is causing light to moderate snowfall and rainfall in the western Himalayan region, while the plains continue to face dense fog and cold wave conditions. This has severely disrupted flights and trains in states including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Weather Forecast: Snowfall To Continue In Mountains, Dense Fog And Cold Waves In Plains
- Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand’s higher areas have recorded fresh snowfall due to the Western Disturbance. The IMD press release says light to moderate rain and snow are likely over the next few days.
- Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are shrouded in dense to very dense fog during nights and mornings. Visibility has dropped below 50 metres in many places.
- The IMD has issued warnings for dense fog till January 5-6. Minimum temperatures are hovering around 8-10 degrees Celsius, while maximums remain below normal.
- Heavy snowfall continued in the Pir Panjal range in Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir, worsening the cold wave in the area. Severe weather impacts were also seen in eastern India.
- IMD Orange Alert In Odisha: The IMD has issued orange alerts for Odisha districts, including Khurda and Cuttack, as visibility dropped to 50 metres in many areas.
