Weather Today: Residents across North India are currently experiencing an intense cold wave, plunging temperatures and dense to very dense fog. These conditions have significantly disrupted rail and air traffic, with several long-distance trains running hours behind schedule, and flight operations also impacted.

Adding to the winter chill, the India Meteorological Department has forecast dense to very dense fog and cold wave conditions over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab for the next two days. However, the weather department has forecast rain across Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad during the New Year.

Dense To Very Dense Fog Conditions In Delhi, Haryana, UP

According to the latest India Meteorological Department (IMD) weather bulletin, very dense fog is likely to persist during the late-night and early-morning hours over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh until December 31, while East Uttar Pradesh and Odisha will witness these conditions until January 1 and 2, 2026, respectively.

Additionally, isolated pockets of Jammu, Kashmir, and Madhya Pradesh are likely to see dense fog till December 30, with the spell extending across Delhi and Arunachal Pradesh until December 31. Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and parts of the Northeast are expected to experience dense fog until January 3.

Severe Cold Day And Cold Wave Conditions In THESE States

The Meteorological Department has forecast severe cold day conditions in parts of Uttar Pradesh on December 29, while Himachal Pradesh will experience similar conditions on December 31 and January 1. This cold spell will also impact Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, and both West and East Uttar Pradesh till December 31.

A cold wave is likely to persist in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh until December 30, with a similar spell extending into Odisha and Himachal Pradesh until December 31.

Delhi-NCR Weather Update

The weather department has issued an orange alert for Tuesday, warning of dense to very dense fog conditions during the early morning and late-night hours. While the maximum temperature is expected to reach 21 degrees Celsius, the minimum will settle at 8 degrees Celsius.

Delhi and its surrounding regions, including Noida and Ghaziabad, are expected to start the New Year under generally cloudy skies, with a possibility of light rain or drizzle on January 1. However, the weather may deteriorate again with the spell of fog and cold expected to return on January 2 and 3.
