Dense Fog Disrupts Flight Operations Across North India, 128 Cancelled In Delhi; Air India And IndiGo Issue Advisories

Dense fog and bad weather conditions are affecting flight operations across India. In Delhi, 128 flights were cancelled, and 8 were diverted on Monday. The airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, issued advisories to the passengers on Monday.

In a statement, Air India said that departures and arrivals might be affected on Tuesday (December 30) as visibility is expected to remain poor due to bad weather in several cities, including Delhi, Amritsar, Varanasi, Darbhanga, Jammu, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Patna, Guwahati, and Bagdogra.

In a post on X, Air India said, "Due to expected bad weather (poor visibility) in Delhi (DEL), Amritsar (ATQ), Jammu (IXJ), Ayodhya (AYJ), Gorakhpur (GOP), Varanasi (VNS), Darbhanga (DBR), Patna (PAT), Guwahati (GAU), and Bagdogra (IXB), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status."

IndiGo, on the other hand, also issued an advisory on Monday, saying that flight movements are slowing down as evening fog is settling back in around Dehradun.

The airline said, "Our teams are continuing to support customers at the airport and are in close coordination with authorities to resume smoother operations as soon as conditions permit. Please keep checking your flight status for the latest information."

On Monday, IndiGo cancelled 118 flights across its network due to bad weather and operational reasons, according to its website.

Of these, six flight services were cancelled due to operational reasons, while the rest were cancelled due to bad weather conditions at various airports.

Flight services were cancelled at Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Cochin, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Dehradun, Indore, Patna and Bhopal, among others, as per the IndiGo website.

The Diretorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), country's aviation regulator, has announced the period between December 10 and February 10 next year as the official fog window this winter.
