Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another change in weather conditions across North India as a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to become active from tonight, February 8. While severe cold conditions have eased over the plains, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, the weather is expected to remain largely dry in the coming days, though light morning fog may persist in several areas.

Over the past 24 hours, dense to very dense fog was reported at isolated places in Uttarakhand, with visibility dropping below 50 metres in areas such as Pantnagar, where zero visibility was recorded. Dense fog also affected isolated locations in East Uttar Pradesh, including Kushinagar and Bahraich. Ground frost was observed in parts of Uttarakhand, while light rainfall and snowfall occurred at a few places in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh.

Minimum temperatures continued to remain low across much of north and central India. Temperatures ranged between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, north Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, while parts of Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad recorded sub-zero temperatures.

Delhi-NCR: Clear skies are expected today with ample sunshine. The maximum temperature is likely to range between 22 and 24 degree celsius, while the minimum may hover around 11 degree celsius. Light fog may occur in the morning hours, but there is no chance of rainfall.

Haryana: Strong surface winds blowing at 15-25 kmph are likely across several districts. Day temperatures in areas such as Gurugram and Faridabad will remain near normal, though nights may continue to feel slightly cold.

Uttar Pradesh: Following recent light rainfall in parts of western Uttar Pradesh, weather conditions are improving. However, dense fog may reduce visibility in the Terai region. Night temperatures could drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next 24 hours.

Jammu and Kashmir: Cloudy conditions are expected to persist through the day, with light snowfall likely in higher reaches from the night of February 9. The IMD has warned of rain and snowfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds (30-40 kmph) at several places in Kashmir on February 10.

Himachal Pradesh: Snowfall is forecast in the higher reaches of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, and Kullu districts on February 9 and 10. A yellow alert has been issued for mid-hill districts including Shimla and Mandi.

Uttarakhand: Light rain and snowfall are expected in the hilly districts between February 9 and 11. Dense fog is likely to continue in the lower hills and plains, affecting visibility.

Meanwhile, air quality in Delhi-NCR continues to remain in the ‘poor’ category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI recorded 196 at 7 am on Sunday morning according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The IMD said stronger winds in the coming days may help improve air quality.

Weather Forecast 

1. IMD said a western disturbance is currently positioned over Jammu and adjoining areas, with another fresh system likely to affect the western Himalayan region from February 9.

2. Due to its impact, isolated to scattered rainfall and snowfall is expected over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between February 9 and 11.

3. Thunderstorm activity along with gusty winds is likely over parts of the western Himalayan region on February 10.

4. For Delhi-NCR on February 8, the weather is expected to remain mainly clear, with mist during the morning hours.

5. Maximum temperatures in Delhi-NCR are likely to be between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures may range from 9 to 11 degrees Celsius; dense fog may continue at isolated places in Uttarakhand till February 8.
