Rain and thunderstorms are likely to remain widespread across several parts of India over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy showers in parts of the south and moderate rainfall across several northern states. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are also expected in some areas.
Uttarakhand is one of the closely monitored states, with the IMD having issued a yellow alert for eight districts. Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Pauri Garhwal, Almora, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts are likely to receive moderate rainfall over the next four days.
30-40 kmph winds may blow along with the rains in these districts. Light to moderate rain is also expected at some places across Uttarakhand over the next five days, while areas located above 4,200 metres could receive snowfall.
