Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that several northern states are set to witness a heatwave and a significant surge in temperature in the upcoming days. The weather department stated that the daytime temperature in the northern and western states is expected to rise by two to four degrees Celsius. It asserted that a heatwave is likely to cause inconveniences and health issues, especially for children and senior citizens. The IMD has advised the residents to limit their outings for the next few days.
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for a heatwave over the next two days in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh. The maximum temperature in Delhi is being recorded between 42 and 44 degrees Celsius, breaking records of heat recorded in April.
The weather department also informed that the temperature in a few districts of Uttar Pradesh has crossed 45 degrees Celsius, adding that dry and hot weather is expected for most parts of Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh over the next 4 to 5 days.
As per the data provided by the IMD, the highest temperature in Bihar was recorded at 43 degrees Celsius in Dehri. It further stated that the temperature remained above 40 degrees Celsius in other regions, including Kaimur, Gayaji, Sheikhpura, Jiradei (in Siwan), and Chapra. The weather department stated that the weather across the state is likely to remain hot and dry over the next two days.
It further asserted that the maximum temperature in these regions is likely to surge by two to three degrees Celsius in the upcoming days.
Guidelines for the residents:
- Avoid outdoor activities between 11 AM and 3 PM
- Consume plenty of water and fluids
- Wear light, cotton clothing and keep your head covered
- Pay special attention to children and senior citizens
- Use an umbrella, hat, or cloth to cover your head when stepping out
- Make arrangements for water and shade for animals
